2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 Starts at $84,925
The entry price for Mercedes-Benz’s most prestigious droptop gets considerably lower for 2015 with the addition of the new SL400 model that’s powered by a turbocharged V-6 engine. This 329-hp version of the SL starts at $84,925, more than $20,000 less than the V-8-powered SL550 (pictured) that previously sat at the bottom of the SL model range.
The 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 is powered by the same new 3.0-liter turbocharged V-6 engine that’s in the redesigned 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class. It makes 329 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, which Mercedes-Benz says makes for a 5.1 second 0-60 mph run. That’s only 0.6 seconds slower than the quoted time for the V-8 SL550, which makes 100 hp more from its 4.7-liter turbocharged V-8.
Standard features for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 include a Harman/Kardon audio system, a Comand infotainment interface, leather seats, and a power windblocker. Options are limited to a $4900 Premium Package that adds a backup camera, ventilated seats, the Airscarf neck-heating system, and pushbutton start; along with a $2950 active safety package, a $2000 sport package, and other standalone options like a $2250 night view system and the $2500 Magic Sky Control adjustable panoramic sunroof.
This new, lower price puts the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class much more in line with pricing of its competitors like the BMW 6 Series convertible which starts at $84,550 and the soon-to-be-discontinued Jaguar XK convertible which costs $91,425.
We’ll see if the lower entry price for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL400 can attract new buyers to the SL lineup as the SL400 goes on sale this month.
